St John’s House Residential Care Home in Kirk Hammerton, near York provides residential care for up to 34 residents in a beautiful Tudor style building dating back to 1910. This includes long-term, short-term and respite care.

The home is rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) (February 2019).

What a lovely place this is, the house, garden and staff! From the moment we stepped through the door the staff were more than happy to assist with our questions and provide a guided tour of the premises. The meals and entertainment have been first class on my mother's stay, and all the staff are very
courteous and introduce themselves to us all. 1st class service.

We were most impressed by the kind and attentive support given by both management and staff. There is a warm good feel to everything going on in the home, which is most reassuring. The property and grounds are well cared for and the food is of a high quality. The management are keen not to let standards

As for being the grandson of my 95 year old grandmother (who I had not seen for 10 years) being cared for by St John's House, I hereby give the staff recognition, for such fantastic care and support, and consistency throughout the day! It was a fantastic pleasure to meet some of the team! I would love
to put more recognition towards a few specific members of staff! KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK!

My respite care for two weeks recently can only be given full marks for the great improvement in my health before home after 4 stays in hospital since January. All the staff in any aspect loving and caring, excellent kitchen service and joining in the social therapy, very enjoyable and making friendships.

A well-managed care home with wonderful caring staff. Very clean and tidy and kept that way by the fastidious cleaning staff and maintenance team. The activities organizer makes sure everyone is included and works hard to make sure there are activities every day. The outside space is very well kept

St. John's House is an impressive property set in beautifully maintained grounds with summer houses, patios, and plentiful seating areas for warmer weather. The home itself is tastefully decorated with a comfortable lounge, various dining areas, and seating areas with views over the gardens. Everywhere
is clean, light, and airy and staff go above and beyond to deliver excellent care to all residents in a kind, friendly, and professional manner. There is a varied and interesting activities programme with trips out and outside entertainment, speakers, and musicians coming into the home. Management and staff are approachable and helpful. I have been extremely happy with the care my father has received.

St Johns is a wonderful home with wonderful staff. Standards at St John's are extremely high and the care is second to none. The staff goes above and beyond to provide a safe, warm, welcoming, and loving environment and nothing is too much trouble. There are always lots of activities and opportunities
to socialise inside and outside the home and the catering team are excellent.

My Mum has been at St John's for three years now and the team are excellent. They are so kind and caring and I know my Mum is in great hands and all her needs are met. I feel safe knowing she is so well cared for. The team are so welcoming, friendly, and approachable. The home is always clean and tidy
and the grounds are kept beautiful. St John's is well run and as a family, we are kept up to date on Mum which is very reassuring. Making this choice for my Mum was the best thing we did. We are so pleased with the care she receives and always with a smile.

A real home, always a warm welcome, and everyone always seems very happy and well cared for. My Grandma has been a resident for nearly 11 years now and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I can visit whenever I like and relatives are also kept up to date with everything that's going on at the home.

My relative has been at St John's for 6 years. We visit them x3 per week. We know the home and the staff, carers, domestic and management very well.
I would not hesitate to recommend St John's to any person looking for a care setting for their family member. The home is always spotlessly clean. A range
of activities are provided. There are trips out for those who can manage them. There is a variety of food offered, and the residents have their choice.
However, the most important thing is the staff. Whatever role they have in the home they treat the residents with great kindness and respect. They are simply superb.
Recently I told my relative that I might not be able to visit next time because of the weather. Her reply was "Well you don't need to worry, you know I'm well looked after here".

Mum has been settled at St John's home for well over 2 years. She is extremely well cared for and nothing is too much trouble. When mum was extremely poorly in December 2023 the carers were amazing and were on hand 24/7 and fed her whatever she could manage to enable her to recover fully. I am very
grateful.
All the staff are very friendly and really do care for the residents as if they were their own family. The meals look very nutritious and I try and visit when it's coffee and homemade cake time usually mid-afternoon!
The home is always very clean and the grounds are immaculate.
I would recommend the home to anyone.

My mother has been a resident here for just over a year. I am amazed at how well she has settled into St John's. Obviously, she would prefer to be at home with my father but the care here is excellent! The staff are so dedicated and helpful - as my mother says 'there is a lot of love in here'. She has
improved physically since first coming here which is a testament to the way she is looked after. There is good stimulation for her and the others who live here, with a number of well-thought-out activities and exercise classes. The residents are treated as individuals and are encouraged to make their own choices. The food looks good and is nutritious and every effort is made to adapt to my mother's wants. The home is lovely and clean and it is a pleasure to visit. The grounds are large and attractive and two gentlemen do a fantastic job in looking after these.
Our family is very grateful for the facility and above all for the wonderful staff!

St John's is one of the best care homes I have been in. The staff are amazing, and the care they give the residents is outstanding they really go the extra mile for all their residents. My mum was very unsure about going into care she has now been there for over five years now and loves it.

My lovely Mum has been at St John's for 3 years now. She still wishes she could be in her own home and we still feel sad that she can't be, but we know she is in a safe and caring environment and I don't think we could ever find a better place for her.
The staff are so lovely. They are always cheerful
and helpful and kind. The home is bright and clean and the gardens are beautiful. The layout means that Mum can see people coming and going as well as enjoy the scenery.
The current leadership team are doing a great job and we know that we can raise any concerns with them and that they will listen and respond appropriately.
Mum loves music and singing. We originally looked at St John's because it once had the oldest choir (in a Book of World Records)! If there was anything we could change it would be to start another choir!

Everybody would prefer to live independently in their own home but If I had to live in a Care Home I would choose to live at St John's.
When visiting my mother during the past year I have observed the staff to be well-led, professional, and very caring. The rooms and other parts of the Home are comfortable
and always very clean; the food looks delicious, nutritious, and plentiful. Visitors are welcomed and the staff are always very approachable. There are generally daily activities arranged for residents who wish to participate. The staff works very hard to maintain the excellent standard it has achieved.
